Carolyn Martin Bowers passed away in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 15, 2022. She was born October 4, 1939 in Ash Flat, Arkansas. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Forrest and Susie Martin; her husband, Cecil Bowers; four brothers: Col Doyne K Martin, Bill Martin, Robert Martin, and Warren Martin; one sister, Carmelita Ferguson. Survivors include one brother, Gary Martin, and one sister, Linda Thompson, as well as many nieces and nephews. In her early years, Carolyn attended school in Ash Flat. She went on to study at Arkansas State College where she graduated with a BSE degree in education. She began her working career as a teacher at Florissant Elementary School in Missouri and took university courses in the summers acquiring her MSE degree from Arkansas State in 1963. In 1964 Carolyn moved to Terre Haute, Indiana to teach at Indiana State University. During her eight years there, she continued her studies and earned her Doctorate of Education (Ed.D). Carolyn was then contacted by Arkansas State and asked to return to her alma mater in order to work on a federally funded project. She joined the university faculty in 1975 and spent the next 22 years as a professor at Arkansas State College/University. After her retirement Carolyn and her husband spent time together traveling the world. She also enjoyed researching the genealogy of her family and attending football and basketball games at Arkansas State. She loved her nieces and nephews and always encouraged them to pursue higher education. Services for Carolyn Martin Bowers will be Saturday, June 18, in the chapel of Tri-County Funeral Home at Highland, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral to start at 11. Jimmy Adcox of Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro will officiate. Burial will follow in Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat.
