William “Bill” Pippin, aka “Pip”, 88, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas died Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at his residence. He was born February 15, 1935 in Newton, Illinois, the son of Hallie Lee and Nellie (Brooks) Pippin. Surviving are three sons: Kevin (wife, Shynee) Pippin of Springfield, IL, Aaron (wife, Laurie) Pippin of Loami, IL, and Brett (companion, Beth Skelton) Pippin of Chattanooga, TN; a daughter, Leta (husband, Bruce) Bilyeu of Loami, IL; a step-daughter, Beth (companion, Roy Sims) Szillagyi of Springfield, IL; grandchildren: Kyle Pippin, Dae-Cheon Pippin, SooYun Pippin, Lori Mullens, Sara (husband, Michael) Lindsey, Destiny (husband, Todd) Cole, Kyra (companion, Matt Burrus) Pippin, Ryan ( companion, Jennifer Brown) McGarvey, Dana (companion, Kyle Jansen) Wallner, Jarid (companion, Tara Newlin) Sockel, Jacki (husband, Josh) Rutledge, Luke (wife, Kristen) Arnold, Megan Clark, Jennifer Steffen, and Blake Ruggles; numerous great-grandchildren who loved him dearly; his sister, Patricia “Pat” Straumann, and his devoted companion, Toni Crane. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joelle; daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Pippin; and brother-in-law, Andrew “Andy” Straumann. Bill was a graduate of Newton Community High School in Newton, IL, served in the U.S. Army, and was a longtime resident of Springfield, IL before retiring from the U.S. Postal Service to Cherokee Village. He was well-known around Cherokee Village and surrounding towns as an Ornithological Architect. His wit was showcased in his one-of-a-kind “It’s a Pip” birdhouses. He especially loved Friday nights at the Hardy Junction where he performed with many dear friends and also shared more of his wit and humor. Bill’s love of God, family, friends, and country was evident throughout his life. A memorial service will be at Liberty Hill Community Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023. It was Bill’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of donations to the Hardy Junction Music Hall and the Liberty Hill Community Church.
