W. E. “Dub” Hughes, 86, of Hardy, Arkansas, was born near Williford and passed away in Jonesboro. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and later worked for and retired from the Arkansas Highway Department. His primary hobbies were carpentry and restoring antique Model A Fords. He attended First Assembly of God at Highland, Arkansas, and was a member of the American Legion. Dub was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bessie (Yates) Hughes; two brothers: Milton and Oland Hughes; two sisters, Wearlein Crook and Geraldine Bishop. Survivors include his wife, Margie of Hardy; his brothers, Roland of Independence, Missouri, and Bobby Gene of Batesville, Arkansas; his sisters, Anna Baker of Williford and Oleta Burton of Highland; three step-children: Gary, Bobby, and Mary; many nieces and nephews he loved dearly; numerous other relatives and good friends, who will miss his presence and sense of humor. Visitation of family and friends will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, October 14, in the chapel of Tri-County Funeral Home at Highland, Arkansas; funeral service will follow with Johnny Carter officiating. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery, north of Williford.
