Alva Sylvester Metevia, 101, formerly of Cherokee Village, passed away March 7, 2019, in Michigan. He had worked as a paramedic in Cherokee Village after retirement from working for Ford, Chrysler, and GM. He loved exercising, hunting, travelling, and bingo and was an avid bowler and golfer. The greatest thing he did in life was last year when he accepted the Lord as his Saviour with whom he will now spend eternity. Sylvester was preceded in death by his wife and travel partner, Arlene; his son, Norman; grandson, Mike; and great-grandson, Gordon. Survivors include his sons, Ernest (Ann) Morenz and Robert (Dianne) Metevia; Norman's wife, Lynda; grandchildren: Kemberli (Jerome) Burkey, Christine (Mike) Kovacs, Troy (Maureen) Winslow, Cory (Adrienne) Winslow, Michelle and Cheri; and many great-grandchildren, all whom he loved. Funeral services were Saturday, March 9, at Chas. J. Burden & Son Funeral Home in Jackson, Michigan. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery at Highland, Arkansas.
