Raye Stewart

August 15, 1940 — December 14, 2024

Glenna Raye Stewart, a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away December 14, 2014 at the age of 84 from complications of Parkinson's.  She was born August 15, 1940 in Myron, Arkansas, the daughter of Delbert Clifford Clear and Lella Ann Watson Clear.  Raye lived in Highland, Arkansas for 35 years.

She enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening, going to yard sales, listening to country music, dancing, and visiting with friends and relatives.  Her love for her family was unmatched and unconditional.  She valued the importance of family above all else and always told her children to "be sweet, charming, and loveable just like your Mama".

Raye left school to start her family but never stopped learning, and at the age of 56, went back and proudly received her GED.  She worked at and retired from the Sharp County Sheriff's office.  After her retirement she volunteered at S.A.C.'s Thrift Store for 10 years.

Raye never met a stranger and often showed her love through food.  She enjoyed cooking for her crew at the sheriff's office and wanted to feed anyone who came to her home.  She valued helping others in any way she could and was fascinated with genealogy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Glenn Stewart; her brothers, Kelsey and Hale Clear; and granddaughter, Brittany Stewart.

Raye is survived by her children: Lynell Stewart (Terry Collins), Dennis Stewart, Teressa McElyea (Glen), and Merle Stewart.

She was a cherished grandmother to Savannah Phillips, Courtney Bradley (Pete), Terah Stewart, Bailey Brewer (Drew), and Richie Stewart and a beloved great-grandmother to Gracie New, Sadie Bradley, Damon Phillips, and Hudson Brewer.

She also leaves behind her cousins, who were more like siblings: Kohn Batterton (Judy), Gail Beck, Dean Billingsley (Lucy), Kyla Stegemann (Ken), Judy Mooberry, and Debbie Yancey, along with many nieces and nephews.

Raye kept a special place in her heart for her childhood best friend, her "ride or die" Linda Gail Herring.

Our beloved Glenna Raye Stewart's memory will be treasured by all who knew her, and she will forever be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, and compassion for everyone.  She will be deeply missed.

Raye requested no funeral services.  She will be laid to rest at the Bates Cemetery in Myron, Arkansas.
