Melvin “Mel” Eugene Larson, 91, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019, at his home. He was born June 18, 1928, in Austin, Minnesota. Mel retired as a MSgt. after a career in the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean War and in Vietnam. He worked as a city marshal in Hardy, Arkansas, a deputy sheriff in Sharp County, Arkansas, and a security guard at the arsenal in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He had served as an elder in Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, AARP, and TOPS. Survivors include his daughter, Col. Marguerite “Jackie” Campbell, USMC (Retired) of Arlington, Virginia; a son, Marshell Laine “Butch” Larson of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Lavonnah Helland of Springfield, Missouri, and Beverly Jerdee of New Hampton, Iowa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews living across the USA. Mel knew and was respected by many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marie (Greenlee) Larson; his wife of 62 years, 3 months, and 7 days, Florence Lois (Hartley) Larson; a son, David E. Larson; and a daughter, Dr. Pauline Patricia Delozier. Graveside services with full military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 25, in Oaklawn Cemetery at Highland, Arkansas, with Pastor Brian Pummill officiating.
