Johnny Schales, 74, of the Liberty Hill community near Highland, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas. He was born February 10, 1945, in Black Oak, Arkansas. Johnny was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and an area building contractor. He was an initial volunteer member of the Ash Flat Fire Department and then served as Chief for 25 years. Other organizations in which he served his communities were Sharp County Jaycees and Ash Flat City Council. His hobbies included hunting, playing guitar, fishing (Rebel Bass Club), and other sports. He rarely missed a ball game wherever his kids or grandkids were playing. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lima (McCoy) Schales, and one sister, Sue Wilkerson. Survivors include his three children: Julie Seat of Hardy, Aaron (Deanna) Schales of Ash Flat, and Joni (John) Stephenson of Little Rock; three grandchildren: Kamran (Megan) Seat, A. J. Schales, and Kahner Seat; eight sisters: Judy Schales, Faye Schales, Regina Hargrave, Georgia Owens, Vickie Bowers, Kathy Brandon, Connie Bristow, and Theresa Schales; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and good friends. Visitation of family and friends will begin at noon Saturday, July 6, in the chapel of Tri-County Funeral Home at Highland with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. with Johnny Carter officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and Chuck Murphy, Stacy Horton, and Rob Simers. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Ash Flat Fire Department. Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
