James Eugene "Gene" Morris Jr. was born July 19, 1954 to James Eugene and Ruby Lewis Morris in Memphis, Tennessee and passed away July 10, 2023 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the age of 68. Gene was an organ and tissue donor who gave to others upon his death. Mr. Morris worked as an Arkansas high school math teacher (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus) at West Memphis for thirty years. He was also involved in many other school activities: announcing football and basketball games for the West Memphis Blue Devils, working with the video production club, and supporting the band program by announcing the West Memphis Marching Classic. One memorable experience for many was a trip with the National Youth Science Club. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, watching soccer, and playing disc golf. Gene was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sue Ann Smith Morris. Survivors include his brothers: Mark of Ash Flat, Arkansas, Neal (Leta) of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, and Larry (Tanya) of Bono, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and good friends. Family and friends will celebrate Gene's life with fellowship July 29 from noon to 2 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church in West Memphis. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully encourages memorial contributions be made to the choice of the donor. Give as Gene gave of his knowledge and resources.
