Charles was the son of Clayton “The Oklahoma Kid” Younce, a lawman, and Sadie Younce. As a small child, Charles moved with his family from Lake City, Tennessee, where he was born May 3, 1941, to Porterville, California attending school there in the winter. Starting at the age of 12, he traveled with his parents every summer along the coast picking fruit and climbing ladders in orchards through Oregon and Washington. At the end of every summer, the family would “pick their way” back down to California for the return of school and winter. Charles volunteered for two tours of service in Vietnam in the 1960s as a member of the Army Security Agency and spent a total of eight years in the United States Army traveling the world with stops in Germany, Australia, Poland, England, and remote villages in Ethiopia among other faraway places. In 1971 Charles met the love of his life, Elaine, and the two were blessed with love in marriage for the next 45 years until her passing in 2015. He decided to leave California and move to Arkansas to live with family for the next six years. Charles passed away May 21, 2022 while being read Bible verses and knowing the Grace and Love he had always desired to have in God and family. He was a son, brother, soldier, husband, and father. He is now in Heaven; may he rest in peace.
