Phyllis Gene Gatewood, 86, of Highland, Arkansas, died July 31, 2017, in Ash Flat, Arkansas, as a result of a vehicle accident. She was born October 8, 1930, in Ames, Iowa, to Clarence and Marie (Dieber) Staller. Phyllis was a realtor, an active Republican, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed gourd crafting and gardening (as exhibited by her beautiful flowers and manicured lawn). She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Donald Mesenbrink (1983) and then Nelson Gatewood (who died in the same vehicle accident); and two brothers, John and Lewis Staller. Survivors include her children, Blake (Kathy) Mesenbrink of Provo, Utah, and Rhonda (Robert) Ebend of Augusta, Georgia; a sister, Maxine Brink of Highland, Arkansas; two brothers, Lawrence Staller of Arizona and Merlin Staller of Nevada; four grandchildren: Darren, Shawn, Adam, and Celeste; four great-grandchildren: Isabella, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Victoria; and many other relatives along with a world of good friends. A visitation of family and friends will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, in the chapel of Tri-County Funeral Home at Highland, Arkansas. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 4, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery at Highland. Pallbearers will include Kirk, Sidney, and Emmanuel Brink, David Allen, Jerry Sharp, and Dennis Weisenbach. Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
