Elizabeth "Betty" K. Jones, 91, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, passed away February 13, 2017, at her home. She was born August 6, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska. Betty was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin where she was Homecoming Queen in 1947. She earned a Master's Degree in Botanical Sciences. Betty taught in Crete-Monee School District in Illinois from 1966 to 1986. She was an active member of Cherokee Village United Methodist Church, PEO, Alpha Phi, and Master Gardeners. Betty loved her family and her bulldogs. She enjoyed crafts, golfing, gardening, knitting, sewing, and playing bridge. She and her husband volunteered service to many community projects and organizations including several years at Fountain Place in Cherokee Village. During World War II, she helped the U.S. effort by wiring bombs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Esley Joseph and Helen Chamberlain Kirk, brother, Joseph Kirk, and sister, Helen Cooper. Survivors include her husband, E. Thomas C. Jones of the home; daughter, Darcy (Ottis) Wagner of Rock Hill, S.C.; sons, Tom (Marilyn) Jones of East Petersberg, Pa., Scott Jones of Cherokee Village, and Rex (Marthe) Jones of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren: Andrew, Christopher, Tyler, Kirk, Katie, Kaitlin, and Sean; great-grandchildren: Logan, Mackenzie, Oliver, and Riley; and many other relatives and good friends. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
