Clara Jo Viner Carter, 82, of Hardy, Arkansas, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016, at Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born January 11, 1934, at Hardy and graduated from Hardy High School in 1951. She worked as a legal secretary and abstracter for her father and other attorneys including Carmack Sullivan and Loyd Harper in Hardy. She was also a meticulous bank teller, administrative assistant, and vice-president at First National Bank, Hardy. She served as a dedicated poll worker for many elections and was honored as the Grand Marshal of the Hardy Christmas Parade in 2014. Clara Jo was a longtime member of the Hardy United Methodist Church serving as pianist and a member of the Board of Trustees. She provided sincere and loving care to her husband, who was a disabled veteran of World War II, and to her aging mother. She was also a charter member of the Hardy School Reunion Committee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Donal and Cora Lee Hastings Viner; her husband, Charles F. Carter; her brother, Donald Lee Viner, her sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jean and Eugene Rodgers, and her brother-in-law, Fred Carter. Survivors include her son, Franklin, of Fort Smith; her brother, Jim Tom Viner, of Little Rock; her sisters-in-law, Dorris Carter of Hardy and Lila Viner of Pottsville; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and good friends. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 11, in the Hardy United Methodist Church with visitation to begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Hardy Cemetery. Pallbearers include John Dutton, Kelly Rodgers, Mark Latch, Paul Viner, Ross and Adam Carter. Honorary pallbearers are friends who meet for Saturday lunch at "The Bar" or "The Country Club" (McDonalds in Hardy) and "The Golden Girls" from Sunday mornings at HUMC. Arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
