Peter W. Lake Massie, 79, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, departed this life on February 12, 2015, after a long illness. He was born February 9, 1936, in Mt. Kisco, Westchester, New York, to Howard Lake and Marguerite (Crocheron) Lake Massie. Peter spent most of his growing-up years in Orlando, Florida, where he graduated from Edgewater High School in 1954. He joined the U.S. Navy a day later "traveling the world" for ten years. One favorite story was of the first time he navigated a ship through the Panama Canal. His last naval trip was aboard the destroyer USS Lofberg traveling to ports throughout the Orient for most of 1963. While living in Houston, Texas, he met and then married Barbara Stroup-Faler. He worked for several oil companies, including Gulf Oil and Superior Oil in Houston. Peter was transferred by Mobil Oil to Dallas. In 1993 he retired as a manager in the computer center for Mobil Oil. He then moved to Cherokee Village where he enjoyed helping friends with their computer problems. He had a life-long enthusiasm for woodworking and crafted wonderful items for many years. Barbara, his wife of 32 years, survives him. He was preceded in death by his son Ricky Massie in October 2014. Other survivors include his children Linda Massie (Ben) Wehring and John Massie along with step-children Richard Faler, Laura Faler, Joan Faler (Gerald) Geile; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The family thanks the staff of Fulton County Hospital, Dr. Tim Young, and the staff of Spring River Home Health Agency for their support and care. Arrangements for cremation are with Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland, Arkansas. At Peter's request no viewing or funeral is arranged. A memorial service will be held in the future.
