Velma Sutherland, 89 of Cherokee Village, Arkansas passed away 3 November 2013 at her residence. She was born May 25, 1924 in Frenchtown, Arkansas the daughter of Fred and Mintie “Hackworth” Cherry. She was united in marriage to Garl Sutherland of August 2, 1944 in San Francisco, California. She and her husband grew up in the Fulton and Sharp County area and had many fond memories of that time, and both of their mothers lived in Mammoth Spring, so they decided to retire to Cherokee Village 27 years ago. She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Carpenter and husband Jerry of Las Vegas, Nevada and Judy Nunnally of the home. Four grandchildren, Dena Buchanan, Ian Buchanan and wife Denise, Jeff Carpenter and wife Breanne and Jason Carpenter ; one great grandson JP Watson; two great-granddaughters, Madison Buchanan and Charlotte Carpenter; one step-grandson Daniel Diefenbach and one great great grandson Bentley Watson. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters Lorene Erwin and Juanita Taylor; five brothers Oliver, Garland, Willard, William and Joe Cherry Funeral Services are scheduled for November 5th, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Camp Cemetery in Camp, Arkansas. Visitation will be on November 4, 2013 at the Tri-County Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jerry Carpenter, Bob Taylor, Jeff Carpenter, Ian Buchanan, Jason Carpenter and JP Watson. The family requests that memorials be made to the Camp Cemetery or to The Children’s Home in Paragould, AR. Arrangements are under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland, Arkansas.
